Forget me nots

Our thoughts and wishes go to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones recently and special thoughts for the families and friends of Jean, Sandra and Helen.

We have had lots of new and regular activities over the first few months of the year. We have done fruit kebabs and baked cookies as more cooking was requested by residents, which was really enjoyed and brought back memories of baking for everyone. We sewed pretty coasters, and we now have our own sewing machine to create more items.

We celebrated International Flower Day by doing Flower crafts cards to send to Gargrave schoolchildren. Chinese New Year was a great success with our Dragon and lanterns and wonderful food from our Kitchen staff. Burns Night was celebrated with the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, and a Scottish Singalong with Frank.

Valentine’s Day Menu was fabulous, and our residents all received a card and treats. We had donation of cake making and decorating from Morrison’s community champion. The Valentines Hampers helped raise funds for our residents. Pancakes were enjoyed by all on Shrove Tuesday, and we had a lovely visit from the Rainbow Guides who played skittles and sang for us.

St David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day, World Book Day, International Women’s Day and of course Mother’s Day have all been celebrated too. Our Pub Quiz Night and Music Quiz afternoon both went well but the Pub Night was really enjoyed by all at ‘The Milton Arms’

Our next ‘Pub quiz night’. We have replied to the lovely cards and letters we got from the school. The teacher has received them, and they hope to read them together. Our regular activities include Communion, Bingo, Dominoes, Games mornings in Lounge with Skittles, Magnetic Darts, Music and movement, Carpet bowls with Eileen and Mary, and Bingo/dominoes with Elspeth continue weekly which everyone enjoys.

We have ventured out a couple of times in the sunshine down the lanes. It will be nicer when the weather is warmer. We have local trips planned. All visitors are welcome to join us to help if they wish.

Library books continue to be enjoyed. If you know of a favourite author or book, we can request them. We have got more magazines for those who prefer short reads. We also look forward to our book and bake sale to raise funds for resident’s activities.

Future Activity plans – There is Grand National, Eid Party, Easter and the Girl Guides are visiting in April. They are going to help us with Art when they visit as we will be having a display in the Art Show in July.

May activities ideas include Coronation celebrations, bank holidays, International Nurses Day, National Gardening Week, local outings, and more art days.

If you have any other ideas, please let us know.

Happy Springtime!
